We have made one thing since 1970: pure Ayurvedic herbal powder for skin and hair. No preservatives. No synthetics. No reformulations to chase a trend. This is how — and why.
ACT I · 1970
It started with one jar.
The first batch was ground by hand for a simple reason: every herbal jar on the market was more filler than herb. A traditional ubtan — turmeric, sandalwood, gram flour, rose petal — should be exactly those things and nothing else. So we ground our own. The first jars went to neighbours. They came back for more.
ACT II · 1985
The decision: no liquids.
Indian skincare was changing fast — cleansers, lotions, serums. Liquids were what the market wanted, and every consultant said the same: turn it into a liquid, add a preservative, scale it up. We said no. A shelf-stable liquid needs preservatives and stabilisers to last. A dry powder needs none. We have never added a synthetic ingredient to a product since.
ACT III · 1998
Single-ingredient line.
Customers kept asking what was inside the blends. So we started selling each herb on its own — Neem, Amla, Shikakai, Reetha. Each label listed exactly one thing. Some sold five jars a month, some five hundred. We kept making both. The catalogue is short on purpose.
ACT IV · 2010
We stayed small on purpose.
A large FMCG offered to acquire us in 2010. The proposal involved adding 'enhanced' actives and moving production offshore. We declined. We have kept production small and in-house ever since. We make 100 packs per batch. We pack by hand. Scale was never the point — the format was.
ACT V · 2026
Still nothing hidden.
Same small workshop. Same hand-ground process. The original 1970 recipes, unchanged. Every pouch is still one herb, and our original Ubtan blend still lists every ingredient by name — ground, sun-dried and sifted, then packed by hand.
WHAT COMES NEXT
The next 55 years look exactly the same.
Same kitchen. Same herbs. Same promise of nothing hidden. We will keep grinding. You can keep mixing.
